You're welcome to come restore my stock motor if you want.

Problems: burns oil, fouls plugs (some with hard deposits, some oily black), #1 cylinder sometimes works and sometimes doesn't (I think the exhaust valve is stuck full open), sometimes really fun top end noises, drips, seeps, leaks, and sprays oil from about 30 places, distributer advance mechanism is shot, exhaust manifold has cracks you can stick credit cards through (two at a time, even), needs plugs every 3K miles or so, could use another carb rebuild, fuel pump is iffy,... and, even if all that is fixed, it'll still have only half the hp needed to merge onto the interstate without ing people off.

While I'm staying with my stock motor for now, I can certainly see why people swap them out!

Hey, it all sounds like good advice. I will order the plugs tomorrow and start solving the mystery from there. I'll keep y'all posted on what I find.

Got hold of Erik's surplus and found they were backordered on the plugs. ABLinn had them for 8.00 ea. so I ordered a full set from him. Should get them installed next week sometime and hope they cure the problem.
BTW, Erik's has plug wire sets for 180.00, if anybody needs them.

Ya know with these prices for just about anything with this stock motor, it would almost pay for itself if I drove around the country picking up all these pulled out unwanted motors and keeping all for spares.

Just waiting for the gas to drop to under a buck a gallon..........

PS. Ship all unwanted 230 motors to me. Prepaid only, thanks. Hehe.

I kind of had the same thought about picking up old motors. I learned to travel with a cooler full of cold long neck adult beverages. Up to 4 engines now. My mistake seems to be doing the same for M35 engines. They are really huge and heavy. I am running out of room.
Remember if you didn't build it you can't call it yours.

    6.2 powered M715, 5 M1009's, M416, 2 M101's, 2 M105's, 3 M35's, M1007 6.5 turbo Suburban project called Cowdog.

I've got two in my garage now. You don't want to see my motorpool at work. I can't quit my job because I would have to move it all.....
