    Default Lucky gift!

I was at a party this past weekend and got a very nice gift from a guy. A complete set of 715 manuals. -10, -20, -34,& -34p. He knew I had one so he brought them for me. He had them for years because he once had a 715 but has since sold it. He said he was cleaning up around his garage and found them and knew I would use them. Thanks to Brute4c for the online manuals, as they helped me when I did the restoration a few years back, but it is nice to have a set now that I can use for a quick referance while I'm in the garage.

The biggest bonus out of it all is that he said he has one of the M715 diecasts that he'll bring up to me the next time he's up. That just put the smile on my face for the rest of the evening.

I had a complete set also and they can supply alot of information aside just the obvious repair info., some historical info can be determined from manual pics and supplier changes in the parts etc. What yr are the manuals, mine were 67 some 68 and one is 71 which is the last yr they printed, I also found all the manual corrections as well, not to much in those though mostly obsolete part updates.

I don't have the diecast yet, as he will bring it to me the next time he comes up, which should be in a month or so. You know I'll be getting pics of it up right away.

Thats enough to make a guy smile from ear to ear. I thought that there was only two different manuals, the 20P and the 34. Oh, and the small operators book for the glove box. What do the others cover?

In the army the vehicle service is broken down into 3 levels, general support, direct support and organizational support, organizational being the most basic (I dont know how that relates to say a div. or group or unit ). So the TM's are setup on this level as well, parts and service manuals come in sets accordingly. In the case of the 715's the (TM9-2320-244)-10 is a basic operators manual, all the -20 (-20,-20p) manuals are for organizational maint. units and cover only the information needed at that level, -34(-34,-34p) manuals are for direct and general support units and cover the most complete infor. on the vehicle, which is the info. needed at those levels. Some vehicles have manual sets in each three levels rather than combining 2 as with the 715.. When you compare a -20 to a -34 manual the -20 doesnt cover all the repair (or parts) info available just what is needed for maint. at that level. I also have a -24 manual which covers most of the -20 an -34 in one. The rest of the manual title has meaning as well, in TM9-2320-244-* the -244 represents the 715 specificaly, the -2320 stands for something like wheeled vehicle (I may be mistaken on that one) even TM9- has some reference, as before 1950 manuals were titled ORD9-. Alright thats prob. more than you wanted to know about TM's ....

The -24 manual...actually there are 2 -24 manuals...one is a thick maintenance manual for the trucks and the other is a supplement for the kits, like arctic heaters.

These books were printed by Kaiser instead of the military and are more complete in many areas than the military manuals. When I made the manuals for the site here, I took the pertinant info from the -24 manuals and added it into the appropriate sections of the other manuals where it logically fit...I added notes that the info was added in from the -24 manual so it was clear.

There were a few items that didnt fit anywhere logically so I made individual sections just for them...they are linked in the manuals section and are:

The Introduction to the -24 manual
    M715 Body section
    M725 Body section
    Tuneup section

The Intro contains some interesting info I thought so I included that.
The Body sections are the best book source on the body and should have been in the military manuals.
The Tuneup section should have been included in the military manuals or as a seperate publication...its compact and covers it very well!
