    Default Front spring question?

I am back in truck assembly mode now, and after messing around in the garage today I couldn't help but notice my front springs look a little messed up. It appears that the spring mounts on the front of the frame are slightly farther apart than the back front spring mounts....making the front springs look like they are sort of crooked. Are all of the trucks like this, or do I have some frame damage?? I never noticed it when the body was on it, and it never drove funny prior to this restoration.

    Any help/measurements would be appreciated.

I noticed that with mine also, I think when they assembled these at the factory they were'nt very careful, like jiging up the spring hangers before welding them on. My shackles were cocked to one side to the point of wearing into one side of the shackle. I cut one side loose and knocked it over to where it belonged and re-welded it, to straighten them out. I ended up cutting them all off flush with the frame, and spreading them for and aft 3" total to install 3" over chev multi-leaf springs.

I've read in other posts recently about the front spring perches breaking off at the welds. On my second truck the passenger side has been rewelded by a PO at the wrong location. I assume they just slapped it back up and welded away, but they are an inch off.

The rear/lower spring mounts are roughly 1" closer together than the forward mounts. Interesting. I thought maybe my measurements/welding on the GM Dana 60 perches were off....and they are! about 1/16" off...which is nothing compared to the spring mounts.

Mine looks the same way, I had always assumed it was the rough use I give it while trail riding.

I guess mine were unusually perfect and very well solid with weld and rivets. Too bad I hacked them all off to build my own suspension.

nope, just the back pin plates, cut them off too. Sorry to confuse ya. Just remember them rivets being a PITA. I do remember a slight difference but didn't take dimensions down cause I was cutting them off.

My friend just converted his 2007 GMC IFS leafs to solid axle coil overs. I wish I had his money, but after seeing his set up work, I like the idea for my D60 conversion.

Ironically, I was trying to keep my suspension simple/stockish. I did the 14 bolt/Dana 60 SOA swap a while ago...but never really looked at it. A couple of days ago, I was looking over the chassis after I painted it and noticed the pass. side spring was a little funky looking. I will fine tune things at the axle. I don't plan on changing the frame mounts.
