Thread: 76 chevy axle question

    Default 76 chevy axle question

I'm looking for a Dana 60 axle and I ran across a 3/4 ton 1976 full time for wheel drive with a 203 transfer case. Question is...Would this truck have a Dana 60? And if so could the full time 4wheel drive be converted to part time with a np205 transfer case. I haven't seen the truck yet but is there an easy way to tell a Dana 60?

M715 series trucks were only manufactured from 1967-1969, so there wasn't a model year produced in 1976. Additionally, all M715 series trucks were 1 1/4 ton rated. The predecessor to the M715 series trucks was the 3/4 ton rated M37, which was manufactured by Dodge. Also, all M715 series trucks included a Dana 60 front axle as standard equipment. Lastly, the M715 series trucks were never manufactured with the NP203 transfer case. Most all received a NP200 transfer case.

Double check the model year, weight rating and transfer case specifications with the owner of the M715 series truck for which you are requesting information on the "Open Discussion for all M715 series trucks" board.

Dana 60 front axles I think will be 8 lug. Yes the 205 will make it part time. Anybody else?

My m715 is a 67. I'm getting rid of the stock axles and looking for a D60 to swap in. The 76 truck I mentioned is a Chevy with an unknown front axle. I was wondering if anybody was familiar with this model chevy and might know what axle this is. I haven't seen the truck yet and the owner doesn't know

    Dana 60 isn't the only axle with 8 lugs. I use to have a 78 3/4 ton chevy with a 44 and 8 lugs

Right. Other than the m715, what OTHER bolt pattern have you seen on a stock front dana 60?

8 lugs are all I've seen on a D60 but also have seen 8 lugs on other front axles.

A'76 chevy 3/4 ton truck will have ether a std D44 or a HD D44. The HD44's had a external lock out.

Hey I really appreciate the info jeepfreak! That will save me a long trip all the way across town to figure out what kind of axle this truck has. The search for a D60 continues
