    Default Paint problem..advice needed

So, when I fired up the 4BT the first time, I let it run for a while. I walked away from it for 10 minutes and came back to find the oil fill tube cap was loose. It popped out and sprayed oil all over the cab which has only been in primer at this point. Is there something I can use to wash the cab down with or do I need to stripthe whole thing down o the metal??

    Any advice is appreciated.

I'm not an expert on paint but I do know this stuff will really get after oil residue.

It is called Oil Eater and is available at Costco and most parts houses.

Takes a lot of rinsing to get the soap film gone but it works well for me.

Good 'ol hot soapy water is your best bet in this case. Anything much harsher will most likely remove the primer or at least compromise it in some way. Use a medium-stiff brush to scrub pretty well and it will be fine.

I've had this situation before, and I also used Ajax cleanser. It will however behave like fine sandpaper and scuff the surface of your primer, but it will also get it very clean.

That is how Maaco and other quickie body shops prep a car for paint. They wash it with Ajax and a Scotchbrite pad. It scuffs and cleans all in one step.

Good plan. Thanks for the advise on this. I really don't feel like stripping it all down again. I'll be in the garage all day filling in all the holes in the firewall, then I will wash the whole cab and prep it for paint.

Forgot to mention Oil Eater is a water based soap product – very soapy.

After you do all that and just before you're ready to shoot the paint, wipe the surface down with PPG brand DX 330 "Acryli-Clean Wax and Grease Remover." Then tack-cloth it and shoot.

Sounds good to me. If you see goofy spots in your paint when you spray it. You'll know.

Before I sprayed any paint, I'd re-prime it just to be sure there are no issues.....Of course the fisheyes in the paint will definitely be an indicator of whether the oil is gone or not.....

If it were me, I would go to the grocery and buy some Dawn dish washing liquid. That's what they used for the Exxon Valdez incident. Maybe it would work with your little Valdez incident as well. Too bad it's the primer, that kinda leaves it open to anyone but a paint expert, but seems to me an expert in paint would take care not to get oil on (or in) his primer as the case may be.

    Sorry man.
