Thread: Civilian Manfold?

    Default Civilian Manfold?

As I posted in the past, my truck had lots of plumbing hanging around under the hood. Most went nowhere. Looking at pictures of other engines, it looks like my intake manifold is not military so all the vent lines are hanging and not connected. It also has a two barrel carb. I knew the air cleaner was not original but did not know about the rest. Here is a picture. Anyone know what this is?

The civillian jeeps had an engine opt.w/ slightly higher HP which included a 2 bbl carb, I read somewhere it was for vehicles equipped w auto trans. I also see you must have a civ dist. as the civ. plug wires an looms are visible. Maybe its a civillian engine changeout? you can tell by the engine serial #.

Starter looks like a 24v starter. The civilian 2bbl manifold will fit on the m715 and is a reasonably common method of getting more power.

Distributor is civilian. This truck was partially converted to 12 volt. I am putting it back to 24 volt now. The fuel pump is military and all the piping that comes from the distributor, fuel pump vacuum, etc. is attached to the engine so I assume the engine is military. I would not expect if someone changed the engine they would bother to put the military piping back just to hang there. However, with the other strange things I have discovered with this truck, nothing would surprise me. Where is the serial number on the block and what range should it be in?

Don't worry about the block numbers. The civilian block and military blocks were different in several ways. Water pump, front cover, motor mount boss's, bellhousing bolt pattern along with the distributor and intake manifold. If your truck has the stock motor mounts and the stock transmission, it is probably a military block.

Thats true the civ engine used a single motor mount located on the timing cover an wasn't even designed to use the military mount locations

Has military mounts. I assume the previous owner(s) just kluged up some of the parts. Lots of fun but learning. I wish I had learned BEFORE I bought it.
Any downsides for not having the vents connected to the proper places?

Well if they are just out there keep them dry, some go to the differential etc. you dont want water getting in there.

Zip-tie the lines up high in the engine compartment and top them off with the vent caps.

Then just keep the water level below the hood line!
