Thread: Winch seals?

  1. #1

    Default Winch seals?

I was checking the fluid in my winch and had to add a lot of fluid in the right side of the winch. As I put it in, the oil was running out of it as fast as I put it in. It was coming out from between the spool and the box. How hard is it to change that seal? Does anyone have a part number and a source? Also I was filling it with 80w-90 oil will that work?

    -thanks Ty

V.P.W. has the seals I dont know the modern part #.s though, and here is a site that shows the rebuild of a Lu-4 winch (also used on M-37's)

John Deere Cornhead Grease will work if you don't want to take it apart. OD Iron also has the parts I believe as does AB Linn.
Remember if you didn't build it you can't call it yours.

Thanks for the link, the pictures will really help. Thanks for the sources for grease too.
