    Cool Question From A New M Guy

    Hey Everyone What Are The Caps Over The Hubs On Our Trucks I Can't Figure It Out So If Any One Can Tell Me I'd Apreciate It

    They are for 'Lifting' the truck by a crane. There should be (2) more just like them on the rear frame. My, 02.

    They were there to allow the shackles, located on front an rear bumpers, to be used there for securing the trucks on a railcar or a crane and such. It is illustrated in the back of one of the TM's

    They are used for:
    Lifting with cables attched to the big U shaped pieces pinned to the front and rear.
    Tie downs for rail cars and such.
    Attach point for pulling the truck out of a stuck.
    Can run a tire iron with a strong rope tied to it through the hole and with the rope between the tire iron and wheel, can be used as a self winching device.
    Whacking your shins on when working around them.

    Has anyone here ever used them for the winching purpose,if so how did it work,what size rope,a pic maybe? Jon ,have you ever whacked yourself on them,is there a special way or a particular word or two that is used ?

    Someone, I cant remember who now, said he had used the hubs as a self winching tool...thn we found a military winching manual and thre is a drawing showing an M715 doing just this...link to manual:

    Figure 115 is the one I refer to.

    When I whack my shins...well...depends on whether the kids are around...them things have NO give to them...the hubs that is...
