Default Help finding engine rebuild kit

A friend of mine just purchased an ex-fire dept truck with a bad head gasket. He found a gasket kit, but when he started tearing into it, he found that the lower end needs to be redone. He contacted some of the obvious parts places, but found that the price for a bearing kit was way more than the engien would be worth when completed.

Please help me find a reasonably priced rebuild kit so I can keep my friend from swapping in something that doesn't belong in this truck.

I'm sorry, I thought they were all the same.

They were all 230s from the factory, but enough people swap other engines in that it could well be a SBC you're talking about.

I'll let others who know more about it share the bad news with you. This is a pretty spendy motor to rebuild. (Hence the fact that so many people swap other engines in! It's actually cheaper in most cases.)

You might do better looking for a running 230 that someone pulled to replace with something else.

Try calling Kanter for a "kit"

If they dont have parts they might be able to point you in the right direction-

For all the time and effort you may be money ahead to replace it with a SBC, most of the people who do aren't "purists" though. You could effectively swap for less than a grand and have an engine thats a breeze to find parts for and work on.

Thanks guys. THat is the kind of info I was looking for. He didn't want to swap out the motor and then find out that rebuild kits are all over the place for short money. But he also doesn't want to spend a ton of cash and end up with a not so great motor.

Again, thanks for the info and for not pointing and laughing at the newbie.
