Thread: Hood support bumper number

  1. #1

    Default Hood support bumper number

I used to buy a lot of these. These would be the rubber mushroom head bumpers that slide over your adjustable bolt that holds the hood. Located in the valance right next to the brush guard outer top mounting bolt. They were difficult to locate this time and if you need them you should probably find a jeep dealer and order up. Waggies and J trucks use em to.

Hood bumper (insulator) Round # J0958556 Price $13.85 each 2 needed

Now I know this is not for a M715 (so shoot me) but if you have a CJ that needs new fixed hood bumpers that press into the top of the grille the number is

    #J5455348 Price 7.95 each 4 needed. 1972 and up.

You won't be able to get these unless aftermarket. I have not seen them yet.

Found a jeep part on your rig that has a number but Mr parts guy can't find it. Add a "J' in front of the number and that should help.

Jeez, that 2nd post kind of freaked me out. Earlier today, I noticed my computer clock was 1 hour behind, so I changed it. Then, 30 minutes later, it was an hour behind again. Something weird is going on, and I thought your 2nd post was another goofy deal with the computer.

Anyway, the CJ button hood support bumpers are screw-on torx head with a "press-in" male threaded receiver that goes on the bottom of the top grille section (if that makes any sense at all) in 81-83 CJ8 models. I just bought two sets last year from the local Jeep dealer.

Also, the J-Series hood bumpers can be found easily at your local salvage yard. That's where I got mine recently...for free (Oooh), since I bought some other stuff. They even threw in the "Jeep" center steering wheel logo from a '69 Waggy. It matches the M715 wheel and is mint. Woohoo...score!

Hey guys, salvage yard...they're like "brand new" on wrecked J trucks. Or, go spend some money ($30 for two pieces of rubber ) and wait on parts shipment...keeps the economy rolling.

Problem is ... there are few salvage yards around here. And if there were I'd have to have time to go to them. Stupid as it sounds, I'd rather pay for a set .... but I haven't been able to locate a supplier. Local Jeep dealer told me they were unobtainium.

Whoa! This is freaky! I bought a replacement grille for my CJ about 10 years ago and I'm finally getting around to cleaning it up to paint it the color I think I want for my CJ (I'll test out how it looks on the grille and decide yea or nay). And I noticed I needed a set of those four rubber bumper things!

(I moved your second post to it's own thread in the Stock forum, Al.)

Regarding the CJ part, you must have tiny hands to get the backing piece into the bottom of the top-side of the grille above the headlights. My girl helped me out after I wasted 15 minutes with a long pair of needle-nose pliers. Of course, you may not need to replace those pieces, since they have a different part number anyway.

Also, use caution when tightening the screw, as I tightened mine a little too much and the rubber is already splitting out/cracking in 1 month's time.
