I picked up a 3/4 ton '92 'burb 454 4L80E with 4 inches of ProComp lift, 315's, a 14 bolt and some various other goodies last week. It's a nice truck BUT for the price I paid I think I am going to do bad things to it. Specifically, the lift and rolling stock will look good in the diesel(which still isn't running) while the drivetrain will power the 715 nicely. The body will look good getting squeezed in the crusher...
OK, I can get a 4bbl intake (Wieand) for $140, so that's the end of the engine comp. But I can't find out much about changing the 4L80E to full manual shift. It SHOULD be just a valve body kit and a line modulator? I've found what I think are the kits for sale but there's precious little info beyond the sales blurb. Has anyone here done this kind of mod? Is there some detailed data online? Or is this new enough that I am on my own?
I could keep the fuel injection and electronics on the trans since I've got all the parts, obviously, but I really do NOT want any electronics on this truck. Except, maybe, HEI ignition...which raises another question, will the old HEI...or points...distributors still work in the '92 motor?
