Thread: hummer beadlocks

    Wink hummer beadlocks

I'm running GM axles on charlie 70 rear 60 front and my local military supply shop has a pile of used hummer wheels and tires they said I could go thru and pick the ones I wanted for $75 apiece.
My first question is if that is a good price and what kind of mods are needed to get them to work correctly and safley on my truck?
I also am wondering if I can legally run them here in West Virginia.
Thanks in advance for any input

Are they 16's or 16.5's? The hummer tires I mean? If they are 16's and have more good one left I made be interested in a set.

    heheh

Hummer tires are 16.5's to fit the 16.5" rims.

CHARLIE: you can legally run them, they're DOT legal.

I'll have to look you up in WV, I'll be in Charleston soon.

I'm interested in a set of 5. $75 ea sounds like a decent price. Most take out the run flat and it is popular to re-center for a great custom wheel. Pirate has a great write up on the process from someone that sells them. They make them in a 12 stud or an 8 stud, I don't know if it makes a big difference, but logic tells me that you would have more grip strength on the tire bead with a 12 stud.

Unfortunately they are 16.5, but it isn't too bad getting tires.

hummer rims wont work on your axles without recentering them, offset is too deep........

How do I go about recentering them. I've never dealt with refabbing wheels before?

uhmmm, buy the wheels and have someone else do it. You don't want to practice with your own life. Check pirate 4x4 tech section has one vendor. Bob has some opinions about recenters too. Past threads about wheels or you can search on your own.... google (wheels site:www.m715zone.com)

USA 6x6 sells the centers to re-center them, it's not that hard with some decent welding skills. We have built quite a few sets of them here at our shop for friends mostly. You will want to make sure that they have the internal beadlock, and then just cut off the runflat, use caution because it is made out of magnisium and it burns real good. I plan on building my set here shortly for the stock axles under my truck.
