Anyone,
I have the ability to get new axles, Dana 60 front w/ 4.56 gears, and a GM 14 bolt (free floater), w/ 4.56 gears. The axles have about 8,000 miles and it is off a military 1984 GM gov't truck.
Currently I have Dana 44 up front and GM 14 bolt both w/ 4.10/4.11 gears.
The entire reason I am doing this swap is for the dana 60 up front for better stopping power, plan to go from the 35" tires to 39" tires shortly. Currently I have a 427 BB Chevy w/ a SM420 and stock T-Case. The swap is a no brainer, so I'm going to try and get it done this wknd.
Questions.
Do I really need to change the U-bolts? How bad is the impact on SAFETY?
What about caster for the new axles? PITA or something simple?
The front drive shaft switching from a dana 44 to a dana 60? Will the u-joint need replacing or is this a drive shaft switch to the T-case?
Since front brakes are being replaced, does the master cylinder need to be switched along with the brake booster?
Any other questions you guys may think of!
I have the tires and rims switched for 16.5
Steering components solved
Shock mounts solved
Thanks,
