Thread: XL Runflats

    Question XL Runflats

I'm looking at putting XLs on my truck and I hear you guys talk about how big a pain it is to remove the runflats. My question is; Do you have to remove them? Why do you remove them? Won't they fit over the stock rims? Is it just a weight and balancing issue? Sorry, that was four questions. I'm just trying to save time and money. The price goes up quite a bit on tires that already have the runflat removed.

I sell the XL tires. It's not a problem to remove the runflat. It's one of the easier parts of getting the tire off. It must be removed to put the tire on your rims.

To get the runflat out simply chain the runflat to a tree. Then strap the tire to your truck. Next put it in 4-low and hit the skinny pedal. It pulls out with ease and doesn't damage the tire.

They have to come out where are you going to put the tube? Our rims WILL NOT HOLD AIR, you must use a tube. Once you get the rim out of the tire, just put a bar behind the 'run flat' pry it out and cut it with a saw. About 5min worth of work,( just don't cut the tire ) and nothing is going to fly around or anything. Really simple and easy and safe! My,.02.

Sounds like fun, but the last time I did something like that the glass in my topper went bye-bye. I've heard an engine hoist works O.K. (beware the backlash).

Thanks, I didn't know how the runflats were set up. I thought they might have been like some of the new beadlock set-ups I've been seeing.

Shooter, when you pull the run flat out, use some wd40 and you'll have a smooth removal. I had only one pop out and that was after I ran out of the wd40. As with everything on these trucks, take your time and pay attention to what you are doing.
