    Default 230 Engine

What is the best place to start on the disassembly of the 230 OHC? I have very little engine experience.

I guess I would start by asking why dismantle it? Does it need rebuilding? Are you gonna save good parts and junk the rest? Just curious whats in there?

with little engine experience, if it needs anything the cheapest way is to buy a used running engine

I think a set of main bearing is like $400 now...and that's if you can find them
rod bearings are around $250 a set, haven't seen pistons in a while, rings were like 50 a set and the gasket set is another $250

if you want to see how it looks inside, pull a spark plug, and use something like this http://www.harborfreight.com/automot...era-67979.html

and pull the oil pan(use a little rtv or make your own gasket)

then you should be able to see 90% of everything

if its non running and you want to save parts/sell it, leave it whole, Ive seen more good parts junked because they were "bad" and single parts make for a hard sell(most of the time)

If you must dissasemble your 230, read the online service manual (top of page) thoroughly a few times before you start.
That way, you have a better idea of what you are up against as far as ability and tools needed.
Then ask further questions that you may have. Lots of good help here.
And, it's very fresh in my mind, so I will do my best to help.
Like the others have mentioned, just taking a peek inside is going to cost you $280.00 for a gasket set.
