Thread: Tornado Camshaft Break-in

  1. #1

    Default Tornado Camshaft Break-in

Since the Tornado camshaft doesn't get any splash lubrication from the crank assembly,
and there are no flat tappets that require good rotation during the critical first 20 minutes.
Would there be any real benefit to running the engine at around 2500-3000 rpm during cam break-in?
Maybe a fast idle to around 1500rpm be adequate?

I,D just drive it, use rotella straight weight oil and use the zinc additive also. use lubriplate #105 for engine assembly.

I have the sticky cam break-in lube to apply to the lobes.
After that, I will still give it the traditional 20 minute run, and then drain out the break-in oil.

I may be wrong, but I think Rotella has removed some zinc and phosphorus from their oils as well, to meet current diesel engine emissions.

I think I'm going to go with Lucas 30wt Classic Car Break-in Oil for the first run,

Then after that, I'm going to use 10-30wt Lucas Classic Car Oil.

I appreciate you help, and I wasn't trying to start a motor oil argument.
Modern motor oils with their additive packages can be confusing to me, at least. Then throw in aftermarket additives.
Anyhow, I've got a plan and I'm sticking to it.
