Thread: Tow Bar

    Default Tow Bar

I just purchased a 715. I need to fabricate feet for my tow bar system.

What is the width (loop to loop) of the front lifting shackles, and what is the pin diameter?

    Thanks!

I kept searching until I found the answer. Here it is for everyone:

The pin is 3/4", unlike my M35A2.

Steel Soldiers had a photo of the foot, with measurements:

Is it forged steel or cast iron? I suspect cast iron would be too brittle?

I'm not sure. I'm welding up a clone now out of 1/4 plate steel. Won't look the same, but it will work the same.

If this works out as well as I hope, I'll post the drawings and the results.

I'll also develop a price to produce more.

Good on 'ya Dave. That makes sense. Those things go for crazy money. Only a few people (not me!) would even know it was not original. Glad that you have exact precise measurements. I look forward to following your progress.

Those measurements came from here. Jon did them for me when I was looking to make my own adaptors.

The lifting shackles for the M715 are indeed 3/4" pins. However, the stock adaptors are for the 1" tow bar feet just like the M35.

I took a set of M35 rear shackle mounts which have 7/8" pins. Bored them out to 1 inch and mounted them on top of my M715 bumper. Works great and a lot, lot less work than building stock like adaptors.

I have about 400 miles with my adaptors and about another 400 with the stock adaptors. I can't tell a difference between them when pulling it. I am going to use one or the other next week to drag the truck behind RED to the SS Texas Rally in College Station.
Remember if you didn't build it you can't call it yours.
