Thread: HELP Rebuilding Fuel Pump

    Angry HELP Rebuilding Fuel Pump

I'm new here and looking forward to building my M715 with input from those who have been there already. I have already replaced the battery box, re-wired the cables, and dropped in two fresh batteries. She is ALIVE! Sort of... Gauges came to life and engine turned.

Next up, it needs gas. The stock pump had been bypassed, but there was no electrical pump in place either. I'm going to start with trying to go back stock. Since the original pump was bypassed, I have decided to rebuild it and go from there. Good thing as it was pretty nasty internally. However, I can not get the retaining pin that holds the cam lever to budge so I can replace the diaphragm. Any suggestions or tricks?

    Thanks,

    GTR

It only pushes out one way. I use a c-clamp with the threaded rod ground down to a point. It works pretty good without pounding on the casing. It is brittle so don't beat on it to get it out.

I run an inline electric pump. My rig runs much better with the electric pump

I also bought a rebuild kit recently. The original fuel pump wasnt working correctly. Installed an electric one on the chassis under the bed. And then after running, the original one started to build pressure bc it blew my cap off. And now builds adequate pressure. So i disconnected my new one. Still have it mounted and ready if she starts actin up again before i can get in there.

Just curious, how much was the rebuild kit from then and now?

$78 delivered. It is not the so-called rebuild kit you see on eBay from Kaiser-Jeep that only has the diaphragm and two gaskets. It is an actual rebuild kit with all gaskets, springs, diaphragm, and check valves. Only thing it did not have was the filter screen. I'm going to call them and see if that was just an oversight.
