Thread: Horn Wiring Question

  1. #1

    Default Horn Wiring Question

My truck is running a 12 volt system and has a toggle switch installed in the dash in place of the ignition switch. I want to ditch the toggle in favor of the steering wheel horn button. I disassembled the horn contacts in the wheel and cleaned everything up with scotchbrite due to the corrosion.

How is the wiring routed (electrical circuit)? I have located the black wire from the column. Is that where the hot wire is attached? What about the actual wire to the horn assembly...where does it attach?

    Thanks.

Power to the horn comes from the ignition switch, from the horn to the column wire. The horn button makes the ground connection to 'blow the horn'.

The horn needs to be grounded through the steering shaft. You need a jumper wire at the fiber collar down near the steering box.
