    Default Air Precleaner, alias "Mushroom"

Is the air cleaner mushroom, and it's decal, identical to the one used on the M38A1?

Yes the decal is the same, as is the whole cap. Midwest Military has the decals in stock.

What is the correct color for the cap? Black or green?

Truthfully, I Don't remember back in 1969-70. But I know that when I sanded mine, it was OD under black. OD was the base/original color. Was the precleaner the same for the 3/4 ton? Maybe OD on that truck? If that was true, maybe the maufacture continued.

I plan to remove the black and paint it OD.

The correct color on the cap is od green. This is because if you add the fording kit, the cap is moved from under the hood out to the top of the fording pipe. The air cleaner housing however was black like the rest of the components under the hood.

    Dave,

That certainly makes sense. Thanks for the insight.
