    Default Timing a 230

I want to go in and retime my tornado but do not have a timing light. Is there one out there that someone recommends? Any other advice here would be helpful.

If you have original shielded spark plug wires, you need the special park plug wire adapter.

You remove the wire from the spark plug at number one cylinder, and install the adapter between the plug and the spark plug cable.

It allows the timing light to 'read' the pulse going thru the wire. The OEM shielded wires won't allow the timing light to do that.

John Bizal at Midwest Military has them among others.

If you're looking for a timing light, check Ebay ,lots of guys are getting rid of them. I like Sun or Sears , 25.00 to 30.00 should get you a decent used one.

Another method is to get a length os standard plug wires...strip down to the inner wire on the NON spark plug end...take off the #1 shielded wire and put this wire in its place with the stripped part shoved down the hole of the cap first...the bottom of the hole and only a little of the side is where contact needs to be made...use a boot like the coils used in the 60's and 70's to hold the wire down in the hole.

Use a conventional Autolite #275 spark plug and time with a normal timing light.
