Heat from space between cab and bed
Post by fsjguy on Jun 16, 2006, 11:06pm

I have an AMC 360/TH400/QT combination in my 715. I am feeling a lot of heat radiating up from the space between the cab and bed. (open bikini top for the summer)

Has anyone else run into this problem? I am thinking that a heat shield made of sheet metal would help things. Any other suggestions?

    TIA

    where are your mufflers?

but yeah, a heat sheild would probably help. Most modern vehicles are shielded around at least the mufflers....

Muffler is under the bed, between the front (forward) of the bed and the rear axle.

Maybe it's time to recharge the AC that Alan installed.

Mine gets extremely hot in that area too. I have the stock setup (Tornado 230OHC and NP200).

I swear i could roast marshmellows back there

Thanks, Socal. Good to know someone else has the problem, too. I'll try a heat shield and see what happens.

I took a length of pipe insulation for 1.5" pipe and stuffed it in between the bed and the cab. Problem solved. That heat was unbearable at times.

I haven't noticed too much heat but the weather here in So-Cal has been 100+, what I have noticed is an incredible amount of noise from what may be the same source the np200.

I know on mine that when the tcase overheats, there is furnace type heat rising in the gap between cab and bed till it cools...also a 12 pack of pop practically boils if left behind the passenger seat...if you look from the passenger sde at the tcase location versus the cab, its right at the rear of the cab...and no other problematic heat sources are there stock...

Aftermarket exhaust, as mentioned above, depending on the routing and mufflr location, can also be your culprit.

Mine had the heat problem with the stock set up. I stuffed the pipe insulation in the gap and it worked for a while and then fell down or popped up depending on my speed. I ended up welding some 1" angle iron to the front of the bed and then using 1" rubber molding stuck to the cab and the angle iron. Been good for almost a year like that. I will get a picture if you want.
