    Default Removing undercoating

Does anyone here have any ideas on how to remove that thick, gunky, curdled looking undercoating?
Some genius PO must have used at least two or three gallons of it to coat everything on the bottom side of the truck. It's now started to fail by cracking and flaking in several places where the rust has started underneath. The sandblaster guy said he couldn't blast it away and that it needed to be removed first. Any ideas?

Propane torch and a scraper (putty knife).
    Or get it dipped

Mine came off with the bead blasting. Your sandblast guy may not have a "cleaner" for the media. The blast room where mine was done has a device that cleans and filters the media for re-use. Either that or he justs doesn't want to take the time.

Gasoline makes a good solvent for tar based stuff.

It depends on whether its dried up and flaking, or if its still kind of greasy.

When its nice and dry, I just use a big grinder with a cup type wire brush to knock it off. If its wet, I scrape with a putty knife to get as much off as possible, then follow with a bit of kerosene. It will soften it, but isn't as flammable and harsh as gasoline.
