Thread: What is this electrical "black box"?

Default What is this electrical "black box"?

On the firewall, driver's side above the steering column:

This is the tag (I know, I need to clean it!)

The wiring appears to be military by the tags and the original-looking harness; it is not shown in the pics I've seen of the 100 amp alternator (which my truck has) nor does it appear to be in the electrical diagram in the manuals.

If you click on the individual pictures, they open in a new window, full-screen.

Any help will be very much appreciated!

    Best,

It's the original turn signal control/flasher. I assume the lever switch is still on the steering column. Wiring schematic(s) are available in the Maintenance Manual section at the top of every page. The internals of that box are there also.

The name of it is officially "Distribution Box". It distributes power from the turn signal switch and the brake light switch to the appropriate bulbs. It also contains the flasher units for the turn signals.
