    Default Weatherstrip questions

Heres another question that's probably been asked before. I'm in need of weatherstrip replacement but I've got some questions. I'm gonna get the weatherstrip off of restoration specialists that every one recommends but im curious about the lower haft of the door. Has a replacement been found or made for that yet? Or can I get the cheaper rubber kind with the side bubble off of restoration specialists and pop it onto the ridge?

There are actually quite a few choices. You can get the pinch weld cover with a rubber bulb gasket on it. A pinch weld cover without a gasket. Or like the full size Jeeps, seal the doors like they do. They are the same parts. I have a link to a build thread I did on IFSJA. Page 100 post 1990 shows two AUVECO seals I used. Don't use the tailgate longer flange on the doors. They interfere where the door seal I listed seals well except up by the upper door hinges. The OEM gaskets had a big rubber casting there. But the seals do well everywhere else around the door. Later model wagoneers used the pinch weld cover with a gasket. They tear easily with a boot scrape. If you go with the door seals. Get 3M yellow weather strip adhesive. Apply it with a flux brush. Buy 10 of them because you have to toss them after some time as the 3M adhesive gum's them up pretty quickly. It is great adhesive.

The link to page 100. See post 1990 for a profile and AUVECO part number for the door seal.

Best thing is to try and duplicate what the Jeep factory did (civi). Then the door shuts correctly and is trouble free.

No sweat!! Somewhere in that build thread it shows putting the seals on the doors. I did not have time to go look. It would be past the middle or near the end. The area by the upper hinge is a thicker banana shaped casting. I have a couple here that I saved, and I wanted to copy them and cast them. To join up with the AUVECO seal. I have done some rubber casting with Devcon flexane 94. A conveyor belt repair compound. Great stuff but very particular to exact mix ratio's.

It comes in a softer compound also. I encourage others to dive in, start casting, and make great stuff. I hope to do more rubber casting soon. I will have a full on metal mill soon and will be able to make metal molds. I can honestly say that I have too many irons in the fire.

I forgot to add that if you end up gluing the seal on the doors like the FSJ's, you can cover the pinch weld with the pinch weld slip on cover with no gasket. It will look great and be what Jeep did from the factory on the Kaiser built Jeeps.

    Cheers!

    EDIT:
This was just sent to me today from someone back east. It shows the later model pinch weld with the bulb gasket on it. Thought I would include it for eye candy. This would be easier than the AUVECO seal for sure.

    Hey Dread,
Go look at Scassidy's build thread under the modified forum. His last post has a fantastic picture of the later model pinch weld cover with the seal for you to see. It is a great picture.

I will stop stalking you now.

Kaiserjeeps thanks for posting this, I purchased a 25' box of it for my door seals, it's a perfect match.
