    Default M715 to cucv axles

Just purchased 84 cucv blazer and plan putting the axles from under the 715. Then install a IH 345 with 727 tranny and 205 transfer case. What should I expect to run into with the axles? I see the steering set up is different but can use d40 set up off of scout axle. Anyway will get started very soon!!!! Want her ready for summer crusin!!!

Ummm. The M1009 axles are the Chevy 10 bolt. They are actually a downgrade from the stock M715 axles as far as strength, load carrying ability and toughness. Unless someone already put the M1008 open knuckle Dana 60 in the front and a Corporate full floating 14 bolt in the rear. Then you have an upgrade.

Are the Chevy 10 bolt more supportable?

no different for parts support. Just 1/2 ton in M1009 versus 1-ton in M1008.

The M1009 axles also have 3.08:1 gear ratios.

As Steve wrote. They are 1/2 ton axles, semi float small bearings and have a load capacity much, much smaller than M715 stock axles.

Having written all negative stuff I need to add that I have several M1009 trucks. 2 have been on the road by me for almost 10 years. No issues. I also have a 10 bolt front axle on my 3/4 ton Cowdog Suburban with 3.73 gears in it. Again, no issues.

If you want to make your M715 a more highway friendly vehicle that will not be able to pull or haul much with limited off road ability compared to stock. Then go for it. I just want to make sure you know about the trade offs.
