Thread: Headrest modification on stock seat

Default Headrest modification on stock seat

I was asked for some photos of my modified seats. In summary, I drilled holes in the stock seat backs, welded some tubing in the frame and fabricated the head rests from plywood and steel. Added soam padding and covered it with Mil Spec canvas. Pretty easy project.

Another modification was to the seat adjustment mechanism. I cut off the stock slide bolts and added my own that allowed the seat to slide beck further to increase the leg room for the drivers seat. It prodvides for about 3"-4" of additional leg room.

So the head rest is removable? If so how do you keep it secure when it is in?

Nice modification Keeps everything stock, yet still GI even with the mod...I like it!

The rod from the head rest is about 1/4" longer that the tubing and it has a small hole for a cotter pin. It fits pretty securely even without the pin.

Great pictures, thanks. Now I have some ideas, where did you get the canvas from, the same place you ordered your seat covers? How much did the extra canvas cost?

I got the seat covers and extra from http://www.odcloth.com/ . As I recall, the scraps were less than ten dollars.
One thing I forgot to add is that I covered the back of the headrest with a panel of 1/4" plywood, with canvas glued to it. The panel was then screwed to the headrest. The panel hides the seams and staples.
    Hope it helps.
