    Default Front Wheel Bearing Replacement

I am having a front wheel bearing replaced on my m715 and have ordered the kit already. What are the torque specs? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

Got to online maintenance manuals. It's all there.

I second the downloading the maintenance manual for the M715 that is found on this sight at the top of the page as it is full of useful information. I printed out all 300 pages of it and put it in a binder for easy reference for when I'm in the shop working.

Now, I have not worked on the M715's front D60, but have worked on 100's of other Dana front axles and I have never torqued the wheel bearings. I have just always gone by how they feel while rotating the hub after tightening.

    I second the “feel” method.

Pack the knuckle full of clean grease. Pack the bearings with clean grease and get the inner bearing nut snug.

Put the tire on. Tighten the bearing nut down to around 50 foot pounds while spinning the tire. It will get very hard to turn.

Loosen the bearing nut while pushing and pulling on the top of the tire. As soon as you feel the hub “click”. Stop loosening and tighten back up a bit until you find the exact line between free play and no free play.

Get it just a hair on the free play side and then put the lock nut on. Tighten it to its torque spec in the TM. The free play should now be gone and the wheel should spin easily.
Remember if you didn't build it you can't call it yours.
