Thread: Ignition coil, help please.

    Default Ignition coil, help please.

Hello guys, I have not worked on my M715 for a long time, a lot of personal work.
My wife left my truck in contact and the coil apparently melted.
Here in Argentina you can not get it, 2 months ago I bought these 3 in the US and when they arrived at my house they are not the same as the one I need, it's bigger.
Can someone help me get the black coil?
I also bought the petronix electronic ignition.
    I appreciate all help.

    Hi Antonio,
The old "black" coil that you show is one of the older types with the external resistor that sits under the coil.

The three new, taller coils that you have WILL fit, as they do not need that resistor.
Throw that little resistor away, or save it incase you find another old short coil that would need it.

Check the resistance of the new coils with an ohm meter before using the Pertronix, as the instructions for it specify ohms needed for use.

Just like the coil, the Pertronix will also burnout if you leave the ignition on without the engine running.
I found that out the hardway, while troubleshooting the turn signals on my 1964 CJ3B

Nice picture of your truck. It's looking good!

NOS coils are very hard to come by and are usually a used working take out when you find it. The coils were the same across most of the gasoline powered M-Series vehicles which is why the NOS ones have dried up.
