Thread: SUA... while OEM Powertrain?

  1. #1

    Default SUA... while OEM Powertrain?

Anyone done a SUA swap and keep the original powerplant/transfercase?

Looking at doing my "reversible" powertrain swap in stages... which will allow me to keep my M715 on the road during Wisconsin summers and allow me to take it offline during the winters....

A powertrain swap and axle swap is too much to get done and too much $$$ to spend in a short period of time.

My thoughts are this since I have a "running" OEM tornado powerplant.

    Winter#1 (Winter 2015-2015)
Dana 60/ 14 bolt 4 wheel disc brake swap in Spring-Under-Axle config
Upgrade to vacuum boosted disc brakes master cylinder.
New tires on fresh powdercoated 8-lug rims
WILL MY DRIVESHAFTS WORK WITH THE NEW AXLES?

    Winter#2 (Winter 2016-2017)
    Cummins/Ford ZF/Divorced 205 Swap
    Power Steering Upgrade
    Electrical Re-wire to 12 volts
    New gauges/dash/interior
    New Fuel Cell
    New radiator and E-fans

Those sound like reasonable plans. Not sure on the drive shaft lengths though. I thought that a member, tomahawk715 did that swap, and had to change lengths. You may try a search under his name

I put a SUA chevy D60 in an otherwise stock M715. Fit fine.

Anyone do a Ford Dana 60 spring under yet.. I've looked everywhere... its either spring over or only GM dana 60....

Curious if I'll have to do a highsteer conversion? Also curious if ANYONE has done it yet so I don't waste a ton of money on something that wont work.

yes hi-steer on both axles if you want to keep geometry correct

So spring under... i'll need high steer... will I have to cut off the arms potentially also so they don't hit the springs at lock?

This looks like an awful lot of webbing to remove to get a Ford Dana 60 to work in spring-under...

And wont the entirety of the perch be on the cast.... hi nickel TIG weld? MIG? possible to find perches precut with that big of diameter in them? (Since it won't be a 3.25 tube but more like 4.5" dia)

I'm almost thinking that it might not be possible to do SUA with the Ford Dana 60
