Thread: CUCV swap

    Default CUCV swap

I had some time today, so started doing some figuring on my CUCV axle swap.

First order of business was to dig the axles out of the weeds.

Second, was to spend the hottest part of the day inside, researching all the axle tech here on the Zone. Looks like between photobucket and whatever, many of the pics are gone that would have helped understand the write-ups.

Really wanting to do spring-under so my height stays about the same.

What are the pros, cons, pitfalls of shifting front and/or rear springs directly under the frame? Little more work to fab and weld, but would it make the mount-up easier overall? I have located a second frame, and will have a good frame and springs to get everything setup and done right with the axles before swapping over (my frame is bent and straightened on front left, it's close but not perfect).

Any favorite wheel choices? I will keep the same tires, XZL 11-16's.

It’s not bad moving them under the frame. Just a little grinding and welding. It helps if you can get laser cuts for tabs and mounting plates.

I kept mine SUA with the original spring hanger/shackle location. I do have some pics of what I fabbed up on the the passenger side if you like. Drivers side is straight forward. Relocated perch and made a plate to accept the u-bolts.

And I think my 24bolt HMMWV wheels and tires look cool on it. Just my opinion though

Yes, detail pics would definitely help.

This is what I came up with.

And obviously this is just mock up. Everything was made permanent later.

    Thanks!!

That helps a lot. After it cools down some today I'm gonna do some measuring and figuring.

Thats exactly what I'm having put on mine. 24-bolt paired with double bead lock insert. Axles are in fabrication now. Should be shipped in a couple weeks.
