I assume you are looking for a set. Here is the best deal out there for new ones. You need 4.

Actually the shackles are tie-down points or for extraction. Not really for towing.

The -34P parts manuals lists them as both:

    SHACKLE, TOWING AND TIEDOWN

Yet another indicator that the M715 was not meant to be flat towed for very long distances.

    Wink

Let's see; you can't drive it far(mpg, ride, noise), tow it far,(ask Jon), and it won't fit on most car trailers! I guess I "use" mine about right, it sit's and rusts well! LOL

Got this at harbor freight for $60. Towed it for 10 miles yesterday at 45MPH no problem.

    (oops - misread the post)

    Main gear,
I take it from your name and use of aircraft stripper that you are aviation related. So, you know all about how parts and vehicles are rated at a specific tolerance, weight and use.

The M715 is "just" over the rated value of most anything normal sized truck or car related. You can get by using normal sized tools, tow bars, trailers and such on a M715. However, you are pushing the safety envelope. More than a little past Vne actually. Many people, including myself, have done so in the past. Most of us though have made the step up to the military thinking of waayyy overkill on everything related to these vehilces. It sure does give you a nice warm feeling compared to the "I hope this thing works" what if? gamble using too small stuff leaves you with.

I am not picking on you. Just trying to say welcome, these trucks are fun and the 30,000 pound rated military medium tow bar is what the miltary used to tow these things. Besides being the correct component, they go with the truck. In fact, they are so huge and heavy that people will stop and stare at gas stations.

No offense taken, you have a great point.
I have a background in aircraft quality assurance & mechanical engineering.

This is how I decided on the max speed for the empty truck in:

Mass * Velocity = Inertia (force felt in braking and in an impact)
5000 Lbs at 55 MPH is the tow bar's rating.

    5000 lbs * 80.666 fps (55MPH) = 403330 lbs.ft/sec (designed rating)
    5500 lbs * 71.866 fps (49MPH) = 395263 lbs.ft/sec
    5500 lbs * 66 fps (45MPH) = 363000 lbs.ft/sec
    fps = (mph * 5280) / 3600

As a vector imposing force, This bar is fine up to 49 MPH, assuming the tow vehicle can handle a 5000lbs pull & stop at 55 mph.

At 45 MPH, inertia is the same as a 4500 lbs truck going 55MPH.

De-rating the bar is acceptable for my application where the roads are flat.

I agree the Mil bar looks better.
