Thread: Roll cage, interior M715

    Default Roll cage, interior M715

Has anyone made a roll cage tied to the frame? As the cab floats on springs and rubber, does the cab end up floating around the cage? Have the DOM tubing and bender...just want to see what others have done before I recreate the wheel so to speak.
Have beefy rocker panel guards, maybe I can tie the cage to them and let the cab float above them just a tiny bit. Tie the rocker panels to the frame, and the cage to that same mounting structure along the sides. In the rear/center poke through the floor and tie to the frame.
    Ideas?

If you really think you might roll it...Go to the frame. If not, just tie it to the sheet metal. Would still save your skin in a mild roll, just not a triple.....Depends on your intended use.
    Is that real money?

Luckypabst a member who left to go live off the grid in Death Valley about 10 years ago built several in cab cages tied to the frame for different members vehicles. His threads should have descriptions and pictures.
Remember if you didn't build it you can't call it yours.

No, he posted a while after he left about finding a diesel VW rabbit pickup/El Camino thing. That was years ago though.

Thanks, reviewed the pictures. Will tie to the frame for sure, no point in a "show" cage. The hard part is the frame rails are narrow, so will go through the floor then angle to the frame. Tie to same structure as the rocker panels are supported by. Will take pictures as I build it this summer.

Luckypabst is the design and size I'm following. 2"x .120 dom which I already have. I'm trying to get ahold of a fab guy but it's like pulling hens teeth so far.im trying to get in touch with him as I type this. I'm about ready to buy a bender and go for it.
