Default Can a mechanical fuel pump be used as a vacuum pump to run the wipers?

I was thinking?dangerous I know?about running vacuum wipers in a truck with a non stock drivetrain.
Since the 230 stock pump has a fuel pump and a vacuum pump both working on diaphragms from the same arm, I started wondering if it is possible to run just a mechanical fuel pump on a different motor and, instead of pumping fuel, just run the wiper vacuum?
My gut says it might work in the short run but would wear quickly?but I thought I would ask anyway.

It will work. As you pointed out, a stock M715 does basically that.

There are other options too. Belt driven vacuum pumps along with electric powered on demand pumps. Lee had that on his truck when we gathered at LBL in 2004.
Remember if you didn't build it you can't call it yours.

    6.2 powered M715, 5 M1009's, M416, 2 M101's, 2 M105's, 3 M35's, M1007 6.5 turbo Suburban project called Cowdog.
