For the Technical guys, the M-715's were fitted with 28V, 60amp alternators. The difference is what's "generated" in the coil. alternating current AC or direct current DC. AC is then rectified to DC in alternaor.
The question you need to ask is what will I be doing with my 715?
- primary offroad with deep fording option -> stick with stock
-everyday driver, staying 24v not much water -> consider modern 24v alt when stock craps out.
Either way I would cross that bridge when you come to it.
Some repairs to the stock alt are not that hard or expensive either.
