Your truck just wanted some more alone time with you. I'm sure it will come up with something else. Good deal.

    Great!!

I have a feeling it is exactly what we talked about on the phone yesterday. The shoulder on the input shaft riding on the outer part of the flywheel bushing. You might get a little bit of heat to begin with but it should work its way in. I would spin it for short periods of time and then let it cool down and do it again until it wears in.

    Congrats

First drive down to the gas station and back was a success. WOW - how did I ever get by w/o power steering and V8 power. The difference is night and day.

The temp never got above 185 and the oil pressure is about 20 at idle and 60 at full throttle.

I still have an oil leak. The front of the pan is leaking. Think I did not get the seal right on it. Got another at NAPA and will try to lock that down this weekend. Also need to mess with the carb adjustments. Close but can use a bit dialing in.

So far I am happy with how it is working out. All the hard work is starting to be worth it.

Power steering is a lasting "feel good" mod. The v8 "power rush" will fade until you get back into a stock truck. Then you will have another few weeks of "WOW" driving until you get used to it again.
Remember if you didn't build it you can't call it yours.

I'm happy for you Trenton, you needed a feel good post. Sounds like you might be over the highest hurdles. Will you be driving out this weekend? Can't wait to go for a ride.

Will have to see - weekend is fuller than I expected. May not have time to pull the pan and reseal it.

2nd drive yesterday and she left me stranded. A short in the wire from the ignition switch to the HEI dist.

Had to walk home (3m) and get some tools etc. Rigged a jumper wire to get her home and rewired it today.

Amphi gave me some help over the phone (txs Gary) and a buddy in E Wash came up with the solution.

    Ahhhh, the debugging phase......

Better to find that little stuff 3 miles from home rather than 30 miles from anything. Those walks kinda' stink.....

This was the slap upside the back of your head. You know, like an older brother does when you do something you knew better about!
My old CJ5 taught me that lesson. And I never drove that thing without a small set of tools with me at ALL times!

One thing I love about the older vehicles. A few hand tools, and you can fix most anything that 'could' be fixed on the side of the road.
