Don't let that T-18 to Dana 18-20 adapter go away unless you collect some good coin for it. A very easy T-18 conversion for the CJ crowd is the 2WD Ford T-18 with the 6.5 inch input and that adapter. Some easy machine work and they are being sold rebuilt around here for 1K. Keep them together if you can. The T-18 and adapter.

Todd's brother is taking the T18 minus input shaft and the D20 minus PTO. He is going to put it all together with a short input for a CJ I think.

May have given it away WAY too cheap based on your comment but a deal is a deal.

V8 is outta the j-truck. Will put it on the stand tomorrow and give it the once over.

Couple of strange things. Pilot bushing is broken. And the bellhousing spacer is full of water. More on those as I look at it more tomorrow.

T98 and T18 taken down to the gear guy today. Also got the motor mounts out of both trucks. Getting closer.

Talked with John the gear guy today. Gears in the T98 are shot.

He is going to look at the T18 to swap all the gears over to the T98. I think that is possible. Just means more labor cost and no T18 to sell after.

    Its just money

    Default T18/t98

Why not just stuff the T18 in and not pay for the extra labor? I believe they are nearly identical.

The T18 had a married t-case. It also has a diff trans mount.

If I want to run with my divorced NP205 and not make a new trans crossmember, I need the T98 case.

I can't wait to read/see the end result. I too have a 360 from a Wagoneer and I was starting to worry that I was going to have to shell major bucks for a tranny and adapter kit to get it in the M.

Did a little more investigation of my motor. Looks like the truck's original motor has been swapped at some time. Found out it is actually a 74 motor not a 71. Also does not have the "holy grail" 319 heads - not that I need a high compression head but would have been nice to have (maybe sell).

This does explain why some of the things did not make sense - like the harmonic balancer was a late model version, not what should be on a 71. Will also effect the pilot bushing. The early crank was slightly different and used diff size. Will need to investigate that further to see what I actually have there.

Just hope I don't have a parts motor.

The J truck is actually a 73 I'm pretty sure. It is possible it had a 74 motor. I do know it was rebuilt with low miles. I know Phil said the heads were different than what was supposed to be on a 73? either later or earlier style? The engine ran too well prior to it sitting for two years to just be a parts motor. My buick 350 sat longer and it seems to be doing just fine. If you just freshen up a few things and drive it I'm sure it will work fine.
