Yeah I notice that too George- thats a dead ringer for the one I have-slanted back at the top-large rear window--overhang in front. Mine was owned by the Michigan DNR-and this is forrest service-the plot thickens lol

Did your truck also have that sort of yellow/green color on it as well? Mine was ex-Forestry Service and had that color. I see a few spots showing on the close-up of the front of this one.

This truck came from the Missorri Forest Service. I couldn't find any more info.

The truck has three layers of paint. OD, minty yellow and the white. The top is very professionally done. The top bows are still in place but the rear set is bent forward to accommodate the roof slant. Does this mean our trucks are related????

All of the steel plating that has been added is just bolted on. Sould I leave it or take it off? Any opinions?

I am thinking about taking it back to OD Green but I really like Smokey and the "Brush Hog".

I'd build the truck the way you like it......One with Smokey and the "Brush Hog" would look pretty cool!

As far as related? Obviously the Forestry service used them for a number of years. Seems they were fond of the yellow color for sure. I don't believe mine was used as a fire truck though, as it didn't have any extra equipment added (switches, holes for firefighting equipment, etc) but it did have the yellow color, and some numbers stencilled on it and a Forestry Service decal that was barely legible on one door. I suspect it was a support truck, or maybe one used to just transport equipment to and fro.

Looks like the outer fender flare braces are actually 2 inch hose reel or could play some sort of advantage in handling hose? Otherwise, looks like you have a unique find. If your'e gonna paint it, paint it but keep the metal intact.

Nope mine never was yellow that I can tell-Its fire engine red and under that is the OD paint. Mine did use the soft side parts but cut off the bows. It had one hole in the back for a radio antena. The top was white on the inside however.

Alas... Another one saved. Smokey looks pretty snazzy. I purchased mine as GSA surplus as well, from a forestry yard.

Time to ressurect this old post. I have finally gathered enough parts to start the transplant.

For those people that have followed along here is a quick recap:

I bought the truck with the intensions of rebuilding the engine and making it a stocker.

Not having any "extra" money, I was looking for ways to finance this adventure. 9-Deuces, 4-M105s, 1-M101A2, 4-Frito trucks w/4bts, 2-Ford F600s w/I6-300 engines and numerous road trips later, I finally have a 4bt w/TH400 ready to install.

I am ordering paint from Rapco today. It should be here next week. I will be taking pictures along the way.

Is there a cure for this dreadfull sickness???????

One of the first things is the wife got sick of my whinning and for Christmas gave me money to buy some paint. 22 Rattle cans later It looks some what better. Total sandblasting is in order.

That flasher is acutally one of the really old ones I believe. The last truck Kwai brought to my house had the same no cooling fin box. I think that version was actually rebuildable.

It looks like there is an extra cross member in front of the normal transmission cross member.

You going to keep the "engine watching" window in the firewall? It would be fun to mess with your timing while driving down the road.

That is the cross bar for the Armor Plating. It is holding the door steps.
