Thread: Head light Breaker?

    Default Head light Breaker?

I bought my 715 with a small block Chev and hacked up wiring. I've got it rewired (with a key switch replacing the on/ off and start button) to get it started, running, and the lights working. Only problem is the head light switch must have a circuit breaker in it or something, because after about 15 seconds the lights go out and 15 seconds later they come back on. I can here a clicking noise from inside the switch every time it happens. Any help on fixing this would be great?

    Had the same problem:

    Intermittent lights...

You've probably got a short or a leaky ground somewhere. The switch box could be bad, but I'd look elsewhere first. Look for mouse turds

I went through all of the wiring looking for cuts and what not. I for got to mention that is now 12 volt, could that have anything to do with it?

Check your grounds! 95% of electric problems on most MVs is caused by poor grounds. The switch does have a breaker in it and it could be faulty as well. Start with the grounds and then if all else fails try another switch.

That might. The 3-lever-switch thread linked to above did have that question raised, but never answered (that I saw anyway). Would going to 12V have an effect on the 3-lever-switch's circuit breakers?

The question of the breaker's rating was never answered but going to 12 volt will double the amount of amperage the breaker has to carry.

A standard 3 lever light switch will work just fine on 12V. The new push button light switch is still a question.
Remember if you didn't build it you can't call it yours.

The pushbutton switch works great on 12V in mine.

Hey, thats great. I never have plugged one in and tried it. Getting that plug off the back of the switch always makes my shoulder hurt, so I don't do it unless I have to.
