Default Who was making the aluminum tail light rings?

Someone a while back was going to make military-style tail light rings with the 6 or so screws around the perimeter that could be used to mount a 4" store-bought light. No pricing was ever mentioned.

Who was that and what's the status of that project?

I've done my own, I'll post up some picslater.

Basically, centered the light face in a lathe to drill a 1/4" hole exact center (there are other ways to do this, we had a lathe handy). Then on the drill press, used a 4" hole saw to cut out the opening. Cleaned up the insides with a dremel. At this point, it was just a few thousandths too small to slip the LED light in...so I used the 12" disk sander (stationary machine) to work around the plastic light housings taking off a hair. Now, the light slips right inside.

I'll get some pics tonight when I get home.

I'd like to see them, DP!

So, Grit...do you recall a price? I think that's where the topic dropped off--just prior to him coming up with a price. Or did I just miss it?

Jon, you can grab the HTML from my webpage and put it in the tech section if you see fit.

    Way cool, DP!

I was hoping to put a pair of LED tail lights on the back of my CJ and thought those rings would look really cool back there. Not flush-mounted to the tub surface, but slightly raised. I suppose there's no reason I can't use your trick there to accomplish the same thing. I'll have to measure the depth of the ring and make sure an LED would fit. Easy enough.

    Thanks for the write-up. Excellent!

You can see how far the lamp sticks out the back of the trim ring here:

Other LED's may be made differently and be flatter. You could just take a hole saw (4", maybe less) and cut a hole in your tub, and let the back half of the LED be recessed in the body.

That will look good, I think!

I like the quarter for reference.... Looks like a good job...I bet on a M715 it wouldn't take much to splice in the packerd connector to hook it up.
