    Default wire meltdown starter shut down help.........

    wire meltdown starter shut down help.....was all good until I did some serious wheeling and now it is a melt down situation small burn on back of ignition too, Is my starter switch bad or is it the old starter or ignition...?

    You just have to start checking your wiring, from the battery on. Likely there is a frayed wire contacting the body at some point.

    I would also check the back of the starter switch - I know my wiring there is closer to the body than I would like.

    A melt indicates a short, so somethings grounding where it shouldn't.

    Yeah, as the first place the battery positive would take you is the starter switch on the floor, that's the first place you'll be checking!

    I agree, lots of big, energized wires come awfully close to grounded sheet metal in the neighborhood of that starter switch....

    Had a tractor melt the wiring and part of the ign switch because the starter went fubar and stayed engaged. Basically turned the the starter into a generator and backfed the wiring. 400 bucks later the tractor is all good

    Since you has been doing "serious wheeling" I think you were able to get the body/frame to flex and the engine shifted at the wrong time and you grounded out.
