    Default Tires

My brother and I are thinking of putting a 4 inch suspension lift on our truck, and we were wondering how large a tire should we put on it to keep it from looking stupid. We would like to keep the tires NDT's , but are not sure we can find one large enough, that would still fit on our stock rims. Any ideas?

You can get 5.5 to 6 inches with a springover and have less added tension on the spring mounts and such...

If you want to with that 4 inch lift, you could un an 11.00-18 which is 40 inches tall...Gamma Goats use them...there even used to be adapters out there for them. You can actually put that tire on a stock truck with no lift but if you flex a little bit they will hit...they are close.

I Love it. I found a site "www.snakeriver4X4.com" that has the adapters I need to convert my bolt patterns into Gama Goat bolt patterns. If I do the springover will that be enough room for the tires not to rub if I flex.

    Hey,
11.00-18 tires are standard for Gama Goat and DUKW353. But since years these tires are not made anywhere in the world (We checked over the military about 10 years ago.). DUKW (Duck) drivers have to change to 12.00-18 russian tires or similar civilian sizes. So stay to 16" rims and look for fitting sizes like 11.00-16, which should be available.

Yeah, 16 or 20 tires are what you find everywhere. Don't put yourself into a "I have to buy this one kind of tire only" corner.
Remember if you didn't build it you can't call it yours.

The 11.00-18 will work fine with a springover....it is a unique tire that does paint you in a corner...

I won't be using my truck for a daily driver so I can probably afford to go with the 11.00-18's. I've got a friend who knows a guy with a Gama Goat here in town, and he says the guy has some tires he'll sell me pretty cheap. I also recently saw a website "don't know what it is know" about a guy who has around 300 hundred or so stockpiled that have 75 to 90% tread that he'll sell really really cheap.

Tires deteriorate over time. I have a brand new 900x16 ndt in the back of M724/6217 that has never seen much sunlight or touched pavement (still has the nubbies on the center tread). It's got a crack 18 inches long around the sidewall. Personally, I wouldn't use a 30-40 year old tire on a daily driver.

If you really need the bigger tires, get the 20" wheels and use 9x20 or 1100x20 tires that are readily available.
