    Default Trans reliability question

I now have my engine and trans ready to install. But now that I acctually sit back and think about the decision that I have made, I had to stop and wonder about if it is even going to hold up to the massive weight of the vehicle. Ive got a 318 magnum engine from a 93 grand cherokee and a stock 5 speed out of a 99 dakota. Now obviously Im going to want to upgrade the clutch to a heavier duty or towing clutch but I just dont think that the trans is going to be up to the task. I know that the mill will have enough power, it was in a personally owned jeep and I put a mild cam and new timing gears and chain in it about a 1000 miles ago, the last time I drove the thing it had great power even spinning 33's and through an all wheel drive system. Any second input on this would be greatly appriciated

I don't know the name of the transmission used in the Dakota. But, it isn't the same one used in the Dodge 3/4 ton or bigger trucks. It is a lot lighter duty. I think you will have trouble.

I have a NV4500 in mine and I think it is too light duty now that I have lived with it behind my 396 for almost 3 years pulling a lot of big stuff around. Your results may vary, but I would consider your current choice as expendable and temporary until you find a better one at best.
Remember if you didn't build it you can't call it yours.

I thinks the trans is a NV3500 series. I don't think it will last too long in a 715 just due to the weight of the vehicle. Go on Advance Adaptors website and get the GVW rating of the trans.

If I remeber correctly the dakota's use a AX-15 just like the jeep YJ's. HOPE THIS HELPS
