    Default 14 Bolt FF Rear Axle Swap

    Hey fella's, new guy here from NC checking in. I have been a lurker here for a long time and finally got a M-715. It is a retired brush truck from a local fire department.

    Heres my question-

    How much trouble is the swapped in 14 bolt with rear disc's on it?
    -I have read "no problem"
    -I have read "had to mount calipers upside down and vacumn bleed brakes"???

    OK. So who on here has swapped in a 14 bolt? Any pics or comments?

    I have searched but no real clear answers to be found.

    Spring width on my M715 is right at 54".
    Back plate to backing plate on my 14 bolt is right at 54"
    I can see where it would be a PITA.

    I have three choices of rear ends.
    -14 Bolt FF (my prefered choice)
    -Dana 60 (weak axles)
    -Dana 70HD (out of a dually. Concerned about wheel spacing and ground clearance.)

    Sorry for the rambling first post. I have searched and searched. I am hoping to here from some of you who have actually done this.

    I need to see if I have any pics of our swap.

    I'll go with #1, no problem.

    Used these brackets:

    I liked them because they were cheap, and didn't use spacers. They went on really easy.

    Used caddy calipers with parking brakes. They hang fairly low (the 725 isn't a wheeler, so its not an issue) but there were no bleeding issues.

    Using a late model F350 disc/disc power brake setup along with it. Truck stops really well.

    I also go with "no problem", but on mine I had a couple of other things going on...

    I used the brackets from BTF, because they have more clocking options (yes, you DO need to mount the calipers LOW due to the springs, but it's really NP).

    Now I also changed the driveline and used a larger driveshaft. BECAUSE I did that, my DS was a little too close to the tank for comfort. So I pulled the stock tank. See a couple pics here:

    I don't think you would have this issue with a more stock setup.

    I think you could do most of the project in a day or a weekend if you're a 1/2 way decent fabricator.

    On a side note, being in concord, you're not far from AB Linn (salisbury), if you own a 715 you need to arrange to swing by his place and nose around for parts and see all his stuff.
