    Default Power steering woes

OK so I've flipped trough the "Modified tech" search for pictures and info to no avail. Here's what's up; I've got a number "76" steering box from an 86 Grand Wag. I was trying to test fit this box just to check things over. Well it seems that the nose of the box hits the front ladder of the frame. I could probably clearance either the box or the frame, but I'm not really interested in doing that unless I have to. I checked as many of the pictures as I could find on here and it seems that no one else has had this problem. It looks like I should have a 1/4"-1/2" of clearance between the frame and nose of the box. Is it just that the newer metric box is longer?

    Thanks

not sure about the "newer metric box" but i will tell you that mine was a snug fit. the end of the box touches the front of the frame, but it did fit without any grinding or cutting metal.

My box was off of an early 80's FSJ and it fit with no problem except making a new mount hole for the fourth bolt.

Mine also fit tightly, touching the rail in front. i also had to remove the strap bridging the two.

I installed a box with the #76 on it out of a 76 j truck and I had to grind a little off both , may 1/8 off each. no big deal , on the box it`s just the very top corner . good luck.
