Thread: Parade Duty

    Default Parade Duty

At my son's school they have a homecoming parade everyyear. It is the only district in town to do it. This year my truck was ready so my son ask me to run it. At the same time I figured I would help the local reserve unit with the "Toys for Tots" campaign. It was a pretty good parade just a little to slow and unorganized. I was overheating most of the time so I had to keep the RPM's up to keep it cool. I really felt sorry for the cheerleaders behind me because they had to inhale my exhaust for over an hour !!

Nice truck, looks like the soldiers enjoyed it too. At idle if you are overheating, may want to consider an electric fan.

I wasn't overheating at idle it was caused from the constant stop and go. I have never had a problem before, but the chevy 292 is known to get hot when run like that.

    Soldiers? We are Marines .

If you hadn't said anything I was about to!!!! Marines are very particular about being referred to as anything else. I may goof on them any chance I get (I'm former Army) but I still respect them for their devotion to the Corps.
Nice truck, shame it isn't painted 24087.....(see!)

Good Job Gunny! The truck still looks excellent. I usually use 1st gear low if the parade is really slow, then lagger back so that I can keep constant. Most parades if they flow well I run 2nd gear low and just let the truck idle along.

I make sure I take plenty of pics in a few weeks when I take my 715 down to the Marine armory in Grand Rapids. They have asked me to bring the truck down to be the center piece in thier big Toys for Tots kick off and press conference. They are going to fill the bed of the truck with toys and have old Saint Nick holdin' on to the fifty while elves pilot the truck. I've done the honor of making temporary USMC graphics for the truck so that it will look proper for them. The only thing Army I'm leaving on it will be the stars, but most people will never notice them as not being standard on Marine vehicles.

Thanks, gents. I had it in low but the parade would keep stopping so the JROTC could preform and the band.

I am going to be helping them out a lot this year. In a couple weeks they are having a radioathon where all the local radio stations will be at Walmart and challenging people to bring toys over. My truck will be the center of it all that they will be filling up with toys. Should be fun.
