    Default Oil Alert!

I read about this in Hot Rod a year or so ago and put Rotella in the 396 last oil change. This article is almost a year old, but I hadn't seen a list of what was good and what was bad before.

I knew Rotella was pretty much used in diesels...its cheap at Sam's Club and Walmart around here. So its pretty good for non-diesels? I scanned over the article and couldn't get into it too deep. I wonder if it would be good in the 230...

The main point is this. No new car sold in the US since around 2002 has had solid lifters in the engine. Roller lifters are the norm. Therefore, what the auto manufacturers require in oil has changed. The components of oil needed to lube solid lifters can be left out. The oil companies are leaving it out.

We have solid lifters in our engines. The same components also help with break in of rings too.

Diesel engines still have solid lifters so the oil for them is better than the "new and improved" oil sold for gas engines.

I mis typed. I meant non roller lifters. As in flat faced lifters.

The 230 has flat faced rocker arms touching the cam, so I figured it applied.
