Thread: fuel cell

    Default fuel cell

so the stock tank is worthless in the m175... picked it up today and was able to get a closer look with it up on the roll-back.

looks like one (or both) of the straps rusted out and dropped the tank on the road and the previous-previous owner drove with it dragging till it popped.

rather than replace it with another "stock" tank... has anyone mounted a "universal" fuel cell in theirs? i'm sure it can be done... and i'm sure with how high the bed sits i might even be able to tuck two up in there - or just a single large one.

just curious. i searched and came up with nothing.

Some have used a generic tank with similar dimensions. The problem you'd likely have is with clearance issues with the driveshaft and or the spare. Of course if you can modify any of those things then the sky's the limit. I'm sure someone with more first hand knowledge will post up here in a sec.

I have actually thought of something similar myself, and figured as long as the dimensions are the same, it should work just fine. Hooking up the stock filler neck might be a pain with a pre-fabbed tank. How's about making your own out of aluminum?

I even considered putting mine in the bed, just to eliminate any punctures, or dents. Not sure just what I'll do yet.....

there are a few companies out there that will make "custom" fuel cells... basically they start with a basic pre-fabbed box, then put the filler, sending unit, and all the jazz where you want it.

i may just run a stock tank for the time being... just to get it running. that's the priority. thing is a little heavy to be moving around on my own... not to mention don't have a trailer it will fit on if i need to take it somewhere. i'd rather just drive it.
