New to this site. I am impressed. Curious about the "ranks", i.e. "civilian", "new recruit", etc. Also curious about the "reputation" rankings.
How are these things determined and assigned? Also, is there a chat room or plans for one in the future?

Welcome to the Zone!

The rank pretty much is just a reflection of post count. BS post don't count, so some people litterally have thousands of post submitted, but maybe 100 that count. Don't rely on it to judge a persons history on the Zone. Remember also that this is the 3rd version in a little over a year and none of the previous versions post counts transfer over.

If you click the reply button instead of the quick reply button, you will see a blank you can fill in to rank a thread. You can also click on a user name and have the option of ranking that person. I consider it a bunch of useless game stuff and have never done it, but that is how it is supposed to work anyway.
