Thread: cucv axle ?

    Default cucv axle ?

Question for anyone that has done a cucv front axle swap into our trucks. I made new spring hangers so as to line up with the factory gm perches. I know our springs are narrower than theirs but has anybody welded in a shim to the side of the diff. housingso that the leaf spring is up against something solid. I don't know if it needs it but it does leave about a 1/4" of room between the inside of the spring and the diff.

I would think that the locating pin thru the springs into the perch and the combined force from the ubolts would or should keep the springs from moving around on the perches. I think you would have far bigger problems if it breaks either the ubolts or shears off the locating pin than that 1/4" of gap...

The springs I just pulled off my donar CUCV are the exact same width. The perches will fit perfect on my set that I just welded on. See Saturday Play Time for pics of the spring mount work... I will be putting the axles back on in couple weeks... I'm away from the shop for awhile.
